Colorado Mesa University's Men’s Hockey Team wrapped up their season on a high note with the 8th Annual Pink the Rink game at River City Sportsplex, where they faced off against Northern Arizona University and secured a 4-3 overtime victory.

The excitement didn’t end with the final buzzer. This year’s Pink the Rink shattered previous fundraising records, bringing in an impressive $36,241. Since its inception in 2016, the event has grown into an anticipated tradition, raising over $170,000 to support Western Slope locals battling cancer.

Throughout the evening, fans participated in various fundraising activities organized by the team, including T-shirt sales, jersey raffles and a silent auction. All efforts benefited Intermountain Health St. Mary’s Hospital Cancer Assistance Fund.

Traditionally, the team hosts the Pink the Rink game earlier in the season and presents the check at a following home game. However, since Pink the Rink was the final home game this year, the team held a special check presentation on April 4 at the CMU Rugby pitch. The event gathered players, coaches, faculty, staff and community members, including CMU mascot Rowdy, for a lively presentation. Attendees wore their Pink the Rink-themed jerseys and watched as the team revealed the fundraising total, honoring the collective effort that made it possible.

“I am so proud of my players, both past and present, for their hard work and selflessness in giving back to our community through the game of hockey,” said Assistant Professor of History and Men’s Hockey Head Coach Tim Winegard, PhD. “Hockey has given us all so much joy and positive experiences, and it’s wonderful to see our players use that to make a difference.”

CMU Hockey’s ongoing dedication to service has earned national recognition, including four American Collegiate Hockey Association National Community Service Awards and the US Congressional Community Service Award.

Looking ahead, the team is already preparing for the 9th Annual Pink the Rink, with a goal of raising at least $30,000 to push their overall fundraising total past the $200,000 milestone.
